§20110 Strength in Grade: Space Force General Officers in a Space Force Active Status, Not on Sustained Duty

Summary

Only five Space Force general officers can be in Space Force active status when they are not on sustained duty. That count does not include officers counted under section 526, and it also excludes up to two officers serving in joint duty under chapter 38. An officer’s permanent rank cannot be cut if the allowed number goes down. The five-officer limit also does not apply for 60 days after an officer leaves a joint or other active assignment. The Secretary of Defense can allow one extra 120-day extension, but no more than three officers can have that extension at the same time.
