Members chosen under section 2104 who complete advanced training can be appointed as regular or reserve officers at the rank of second lieutenant or ensign, even if they are under 21. For appointments in May or June, the rank date is that year’s academy graduation; the Secretary sets dates for others. Advanced training time does not count as enlisted service when computing length of service, except for Selected Reserve service on or after August 1, 1979.
