Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle A— General Military Law › Part III— TRAINING AND EDUCATION › Chapter 103— SENIOR RESERVE OFFICERS’ TRAINING CORPS › § 2108
The Secretary of a military branch can give advanced standing in an advanced training program to enlisted members or people who have served on active duty if their education or training justifies it. The Secretary can count similar military training from another branch toward admission and can excuse parts of the required course, like field training or practice cruises, for people already found qualified. A person may stay in or return to the program after earning a bachelor’s degree if they still need required military instruction. The Secretary may delay required active‑duty or reserve service for someone doing resident graduate or professional study. For cadets accepted into a civilian bachelor’s program, the Secretary of the Army may delay the start of their reserve service. The Secretary may also release someone from the program and discharge them if the needs of the service require it.
