The Commandant of the Defense Language Institute can award an Associate of Arts or a Bachelor of Arts in a foreign language to graduates of the Institute’s Foreign Language Center who meet the degree requirements. The Center’s Provost must tell the Commandant that a student has met all requirements before a degree is given. The Secretary of Defense sets the rules for how this authority is used.
