Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle A— General Military Law › Part III— TRAINING AND EDUCATION › Chapter 111— SUPPORT OF SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS, AND ENGINEERING EDUCATION › § 2192b
The Secretary of Defense must run a program that helps students at certain schools get ready for careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and gives support to their teachers. The program must work with the military department chiefs, the Secretary of Education, the National Science Foundation, and other groups the Secretary chooses. It can offer internships and research projects at defense labs, scholarships and fellowships, help improve STEM teaching and curricula, and set up travel, demonstrations, mentoring, and other informal science activities. The Secretary must use outcome-based measures and both internal and outside reviews to see how well the program meets the Department of Defense’s needs. Covered schools means elementary or secondary schools where a significant number of military members’ dependents are enrolled.
