A military department head can give a covered person their demilitarized, damaged personal protective equipment (PPE) for free through a Defense Logistics Agency distribution center. A covered person is either a member under that secretary who is leaving the armed forces or a veteran who served under that secretary. PPE means protective gear that was damaged during that person’s deployment on or after September 11, 2001.
