Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle A— General Military Law › Part IV— SERVICE, SUPPLY, AND PROPERTY › Chapter 169— MILITARY CONSTRUCTION AND MILITARY FAMILY HOUSING › Subchapter II— MILITARY FAMILY HOUSING › § 2824
The military can buy existing family housing instead of building new homes. They can buy full ownership of private or HUD-owned houses in the U.S., and may buy partial ownership abroad. If they spend funds meant for building to buy houses, they can also buy the land rights. Bought homes must follow the size limit in section 2826, but that limit could be waived for units bought in the five-year period beginning on February 10, 1996. They cannot use eminent domain to get these homes.
