The Army Staff must give professional help to the Secretary of the Army, the Under Secretary, the Assistant Secretaries of the Army, and the Chief of Staff of the Army. Under the authority, direction, and control of the Secretary of the Army, the Army Staff must prepare the Army for use and handle recruiting, organizing, supplying, equipping (including research and development the Secretary assigns), training, servicing, mobilizing, demobilizing, administering, and maintaining the force, subject to subsections (c) and (d) of section 7014. It must also check and report on the Army’s efficiency and readiness to support combatant commands, write and oversee detailed instructions to carry out approved plans, coordinate Army organizations when the Secretary or Chief of Staff directs, and perform any other duties the Secretary assigns that are not set by law.
