Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle B— Army › Part I— ORGANIZATION › Chapter 707— THE ARMY › § 7065
Commissioned Army officers can be assigned to the general staff or serve as inspectors general. The Secretary may place members in special fields like intelligence, counter-intelligence, and military government, or move someone from one branch to work in another. Members not on active duty can also be assigned to basic or special branches, other groups, or organizations the Secretary considers appropriate. No Army officer may be given specialized technical, scientific, or professional work unless they are qualified and meet standards no lower than those that were in place on June 28, 1950. For duties like those in civilian professions—such as engineering, law, medicine, or theology—an officer must have similar education, training, or experience unless urgent needs prevent it.
