Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle A— General Military Law › Part II— PERSONNEL › Chapter 40— LEAVE › § 710a
Allows certain reserve members to take parental leave equal to up to 12 inactive‑duty training periods (paid under section 206 of title 37) during the one-year that starts after a child is born, adopted, or placed with the member for long‑term foster care or adoption. The Secretary of Defense creates the rules. The member’s service Secretary can let a member use unused leave after that one-year if the member would otherwise lose it because of operational needs, required military schooling, or other reasonable reasons. Any extended leave must be used within a reasonable time after those reasons end. Covered members are selected reserve who get pay under section 206 and individual ready reserve who earn a retirement credit year by doing enough inactive training and get pay under section 206.
