When members of the military (including the National Guard) or Federal law enforcement personnel help Federal authorities respond to a civil disturbance, they must wear visible identification that shows their own name or a unique ID and the name of their military branch, agency, or employer. If military members help civilian police, they must show the name of their armed force. The rules do not apply to people who do not normally wear a uniform or distinctive gear, or to those working undercover as part of their normal job.
