§7483 — Title 10 Armed Forces | U.S. Code

Summary

People who attend a school or camp set up under the related law can get help paying for travel to and from that school. They can get one of three choices: actual transportation and living costs; transportation plus a 1-cent-per-mile living payment; or a 5-cent-per-mile travel payment. The return-trip payment can be given in advance. Distance is measured by the shortest usual route allowed within the area the Secretary of the Army sets, from the approved starting point to the school and back.

(a)There may be furnished to a person attending a school or camp established under section 7481 of this title, for travel to and from that school or camp—

(1)transportation and subsistence;

(2)transportation in kind and a subsistence allowance of one cent a mile; or

(3)a travel allowance of five cents a mile.

(b)The travel allowance for the return trip may be paid in advance.

(c)For the purposes of this section, distance is computed by the shortest usually traveled route, within such territorial limits as the Secretary of the Army may prescribe, from the authorized starting point to the school or camp and return.
