Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle C— Navy and Marine Corps › Part II— PERSONNEL › Chapter 827— RATIONS › § 8242
The President decides what a Navy ration includes and how much to give. The President can substitute equivalent foods if it saves money or protects sailors’ health and comfort. An enlisted sailor on active duty gets one ration a day. Emergency rations are extra. The Secretary of the Navy must provide fruit, milk, butter, and eggs needed for sick or injured patients in Navy hospitals under Navy rules. The Secretary can raise daily rations for ships or stations with an authorized crew of fewer than 150 if the President says conditions warrant it.
