§8476 Operation of Naval Academy Dairy Farm

Summary

The Secretary of the Navy may stop or cut back dairy and other operations at the Naval Academy dairy farm in Gambrills, Maryland. Even if operations end or shrink, the land (about 875 acres) cannot be declared excess federal property, sold, or given away, and it must be kept rural and used for farming. If operations are reduced or ended, the Secretary may lease the land, buildings, and equipment to others and may give preference to people who will keep dairy work going. Every lease must require the lessee to keep the property rural and agricultural. All rent money goes to the Superintendent of the Naval Academy and can pay costs for the property, including reimbursing nonappropriated fund instrumentalities of the Naval Academy. No other law forces the Secretary or the Superintendent to run a dairy farm at Gambrills or elsewhere.
