Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle C— Navy and Marine Corps › Part III— EDUCATION AND TRAINING › Chapter 853— UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY › § 8476
The Secretary of the Navy can stop or cut back dairy or other work at the Naval Academy dairy farm in Gambrills, Maryland. The land that makes up the farm, about approximately 875 acres, cannot be declared excess, sold, or given away by the Navy or any federal agency. That land must be kept rural and used for agriculture. If operations are cut back, the Secretary can lease the land, buildings, and equipment to people on terms the Secretary sets and may give preference to those who will keep dairy operations. Any lease must require the lessee to keep the property rural and agricultural. Money from those leases goes to the Superintendent of the Naval Academy to pay property costs, including reimbursing nonappropriated fund instrumentalities of the Naval Academy. The Secretary or the Superintendent are not required to run a dairy farm for the Naval Academy anywhere.
