Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle C— Navy and Marine Corps › Part IV— GENERAL ADMINISTRATION › Chapter 883— PRIZE › § 8867
A court may order property that must be sold to be moved to another federal district for sale. The marshal must transfer, insure, and keep the property safe. He must sell it as if it were in his own district and deposit the full sale proceeds with the Treasurer of the United States or the nearest public depositary, under the control of the court where the case began. Costs for insurance, moving, storage, and sale come out of the property or its proceeds, and the marshal can be reimbursed for expenses he pays up front. The Secretary of the Navy can also require such a transfer by general rule or by a special order in the case. If the Secretary orders it, the transfer is handled the same as if the court had ordered it.
