§8871 Payment of Costs and Expenses From Prize Fund

Summary

No money from a prize fund can be paid unless a court orders it. The court may at any time order allowed costs or charges paid from the deposit held with the Treasurer or a public depositary. When the case ends, the court must order the Treasurer or depositary to pay any allowed costs still unpaid. If the final order returns property or there is no money in the case, unpaid allowed costs must be paid from the fund that covers expenses of suits involving the United States.
