Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle D— Air Force and Space Force › Part I— ORGANIZATION › Chapter 908— THE SPACE FORCE › § 9088
The Secretary of the Air Force must assign Space Force officers who finish their first officer training so that acquisition positions are staffed about as well as operational positions. The Secretary must also place enough Space Force officers in positions at the National Reconnaissance Office to keep the NRO running effectively. Within 60 days after the date of the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026, and by October 31 each year through 2030, the Secretary must send a report to the Committees on Armed Forces of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The report must show the number and percent of authorized and filled Space Force officer positions by rank and year group in acquisition and operational career fields; the staffing rate for junior officers by career field and organization (including the NRO); any shortfalls or imbalances between acquisition and operational staffing; and actions taken or planned to fix and keep staffing levels comparable.
