The President can change the official date an Air Force or Space Force officer is treated as holding a temporary rank when the needs of those services call for it.

The President may, in accordance with the needs of the Air Force or the Space Force, adjust dates of rank of commissioned officers of the Air Force or the Space Force serving in temporary grades.
