The Air Force Secretary may hire retired Air Force members as contractors to serve as Civil Air Patrol administrators or liaison officers. Their qualifications must follow the rules in section 9498. If the contract allows it, they may accept services for the Air Force. While working under that contract, they are not on active duty or inactive‑duty training. The Secretary may also use Civil Air Patrol chaplains to support active duty and reserve forces as much and under the conditions the Secretary decides.
