To protect federal money or property, the Secretary of the Air Force can lend weapons and their gear and give ammunition to a U.S. department or independent agency when that agency’s head asks. The agency can name an officer to receive and keep track of the items. Anything not used up must be returned when it is no longer needed. The agency must send money to the Air Force’s account to pay for the ammunition given out; replacing weapons or gear that are lost, destroyed, or cannot be fixed; repairing items sent back; and shipping and handling.
