Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle D— Air Force and Space Force › Part IV— SERVICE, SUPPLY, AND PROCUREMENT › Chapter 979— REAL PROPERTY › § 9784
The Secretary of the Air Force must run an official Air Force and Space Force museum system. It must include the National Museum of the United States Air Force and can include other museums the Secretary approves if they meet rules about historical importance, public access and education, and preserving Air and Space heritage. A museum may not close until the Secretary gives the House and Senate Armed Services Committees a notice with a plan for the collections (preserve, store, or display elsewhere), how staff issues will be handled, any partnership efforts, and the cost to move or preserve items, and 90 days pass after the committees get the notice. The Secretary may form partnerships, including with nonprofits, to help support the museums.
