Defines four terms used in the next section. State housing finance authority is a public agency, authority, or corporation that acts for a State or local government and provides residential mortgage financing in that State. Nonprofit entity is a state-chartered not-for-profit exempt from federal tax under section 501(c) of title 26 whose earnings do not go to private persons; this includes nonprofits set up under Title IX of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968. Mortgage-related assets are 1- to 4-family or multifamily home loans and property with those homes. Net income is the money left after subtracting all related expenses, figured using generally accepted accounting principles.
