Fund money HUD does not need for insurance under section 1709 must go to the U.S. Treasurer or be invested in U.S. bonds or other government-guaranteed obligations. Investments should, when feasible, support the residential mortgage market. With Treasury approval, HUD may buy section 1710 debentures on the open market if their yield equals or exceeds other allowed investments; purchased debentures are canceled and group accounts charged.
