The Commandant must keep a program that honors Coast Guard officers, members, and employees who helped make a Coast Guard acquisition project or program successful over the long term. The program must set award types, rules for who can win and how they are honored, how Coast Guard personnel can nominate people or teams, and how nominations are judged by one or more panels of government, college, and private-sector experts chosen by the Commandant. If funds are available, the Commandant may give a cash bonus to a civilian employee who is honored when their work deserves it.
