Title 14 › Subtitle SUBTITLE II— PERSONNEL › Chapter 19— COAST GUARD ACADEMY › Subchapter II— CADETS › § 1927
The Secretary can set an amount of money given to each new cadet when they enter the Academy to pay for their first uniforms and gear. That amount is put on the cadet’s account and later deducted from their pay. If a cadet leaves before graduating and owes money for those uniform advances, they must turn in any clearly military clothing and equipment to the Academy to cover the debt. If what they turn in is worth less than the debt, the remaining debt is canceled.
