If an aviation cadet is designated under section 2317 and meets the Navy's eligibility rules in title 10, section 2003 to be a naval aviator, they may be appointed an ensign in the Coast Guard Reserve and named a Coast Guard aviator. Cadets who finish training about the same time are treated as having started their officer service on the same date. The Secretary’s decision about that date is final.
