The Secretary may delay a commissioned officer’s retirement or separation (not a commissioned warrant officer) when medical exams or disability processing need hospital care or observation that can’t finish before the scheduled date. The officer must agree. If consent is withdrawn in writing, the delay ends within 60 days after the Secretary gets that notice.
