An enlisted member may, under rules set by the Secretary, sign a written, voluntary agreement to extend their enlistment for up to six full years from the end of their current term. After the original end date they get the same pay and allowances as if discharged and reenlisted immediately. All extensions together cannot exceed six years and cannot take away any rights or benefits they would have had otherwise.
