Coast Guard enlisted, civilian ship crew, and field workers may get food rations or money instead. The Secretary sets the amounts and rules. Payments go to the person or to an officer the Commandant names. That money can be kept in public accounts or insured banks and must be accounted for. Anyone with a subsistence allowance cannot get rations or cash.
