Title 14 › Subtitle SUBTITLE I— ESTABLISHMENT, POWERS, DUTIES, AND ADMINISTRATION › Chapter 5— FUNCTIONS AND POWERS › Subchapter III— AIDS TO NAVIGATION › § 552
The Secretary must set up a way to stop any Coast Guard aid to navigation that is not seasonal or temporary. This must be done within 180 days. The process must include how the public will be told about any discontinuance and steps to prevent any removal that could make navigation unsafe or hurt maritime operations, including food security and maritime transport. The Secretary must get advice from the Navigation Safety Advisory Council and consult the public and relevant State stakeholders (for example, state and local agencies; law enforcement and emergency responders; tribes; ports, pilots, harbormasters; fishermen; ferry, marina, and other vessel operators; and coastal residents). Within 30 days after the process is created, the Secretary must notify the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
