Title 14 › Subtitle SUBTITLE I— ESTABLISHMENT, POWERS, DUTIES, AND ADMINISTRATION › Chapter 9— ADMINISTRATION › Subchapter I— REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY › § 910
The Secretary must not close a Coast Guard small boat station or subunit unless they find that the remaining search-and-rescue coverage keeps people on the water safe, local weather and sea conditions (like water temperature, tides, or currents) do not require the station to stay open, and the Coast Guard’s response-time standards are met. The Secretary must also give people in the area a chance to comment and hold public meetings about the proposed closure. The Secretary may change how stations operate or move resources to work more efficiently, but any closures must follow the rules above.
