§1152 Clearinghouse for Technical Information; Removal of Security Classification

Summary

The Secretary of Commerce must create and run a central office inside the Department of Commerce to gather and share scientific, technical, and engineering information. That office will look for and collect material from U.S. and foreign sources, sort and record it, and keep catalogs or lists. The office will make the information available to businesses, state and local governments, other federal agencies, and the public by using summaries, translations, bibliographies, indexes, microfilm, and other copies, either directly or through trade and scientific publications. When national security allows, and within his legal authority and with approval from the proper officials, the Secretary may lift limits on sharing technical data so industry can use it.
