Defines key words used in this part. A consumer is a person. A consumer credit transaction is any deal where credit is offered or given to a person for personal, family, or household use. A credit repair organization is someone who uses the mail or interstate commerce to sell or promise services for money that are meant to improve a person’s credit record or to give advice or help about doing that; it does not include nonprofit groups exempt under 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3), a creditor helping its own customer restructure debt (see section 1602), or a bank, federal or State credit union, or their affiliates or subsidiaries (see sections 1813 and 1752). Credit has the meaning given in section 1602(e) of this title.
