Sets the meanings of key words and how to read them for this part of the law. Applicant: a person who asks a lender for more credit, either directly or by using more than an existing credit limit. Bureau: the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection. Credit: the right to delay paying a debt or to buy now and pay later. Creditor: someone who regularly gives or arranges credit, or an assignee who helps decide credit. Person: a human, business, government, trust, estate, partnership, cooperative, or association. References to a requirement also include the Bureau’s rules under this part.
