Title 15 › Chapter 53— TOXIC SUBSTANCES CONTROL › Subchapter III— INDOOR RADON ABATEMENT › § 2668
The Administrator can give grants or cooperative agreements to colleges, universities, or groups of such schools to set up and run regional radon training centers. These centers must make information and training available to federal and state officials, professional and private firms, and the public about radon health risks and proven ways to measure and reduce radon. Any eligible school or consortium can apply in the form the Administrator requires. The Administrator must fund at least 3 eligible applicants with the full amount of available funds and will pick recipients so money is fairly spread across U.S. regions. Selection looks at how well the proposal meets the training goal, the applicant’s radon and training expertise, how serious radon is in the area, the center’s geographic reach, and any other uniform criteria given to applicants beforehand. No applicant gets funding in a year if they received it the year before unless the Administrator finds they carried out the prior work satisfactorily. Up to $1,000,000 is authorized for each of fiscal years 1989, 1990, and 1991.
