The Administrator, with the Secretary of Education, can give grants to States to help schools with environmental health. Grants can pay for technical help using EPA tools like Tools for Schools and the Healthy School Environmental Assessment Tool. Grants can also fund State programs that set school building design and renovation standards, find problems like contaminants or pollutant emissions, recommend fixes, and check children’s exposure. The authority to do this ends five years after December 19, 2007 (December 19, 2012).
