§278g–2a Teacher Science and Technology Enhancement Institute Program

Summary

The Director must create a teacher science and technology program inside the Institute. It trains math and science teachers in elementary, middle, and secondary schools and helps them better understand science and how science affects business. The program focuses on six areas, including scientific measurements, tests and standards, industrial competitiveness and quality, manufacturing, technology transfer, and other Institute expertise the Director chooses. The Director sets the rules and chooses participants, giving special consideration to teachers from high-need schools (as defined in section 1021 of title 20). The program runs each year during the summer when a majority of schools have not yet started the school year. Teachers can work in Institute labs or use other methods the Director picks, such as online tools, video meetings, recordings, workshops, and conferences.
