§4908 Information on Service Sector

Summary

The Secretary must make sure the Data Bank has service-sector economic information that is as complete and as up-to-date as the information on the merchandise sector, as much as possible. The Secretary must also carry out a new benchmark survey of service transactions covering eight types of services, including banking, information (like software), brokerage, transportation, travel, engineering, construction, and health. The Secretary must provide, at least once a year, full information about the service sector and must create an index of leading indicators that measures service-sector activity in direct proportion to the service sector’s contribution to the United States’ gross national product.
