§5207 Department of Defense

Summary

The Secretary of Defense must, under the Superconductivity Action Plan, focus the Department’s superconductivity work on basic science, processing of materials, and using new superconducting materials. The Secretary must also set out the engineering parameters for high-temperature superconducting materials and carry out the development, engineering, and operational prototype testing needed for DoD missions, using test criteria from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency when appropriate. The Director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency must, under the same plan, support and add to basic and applied superconductivity work done by other federal agencies and industry, and create criteria for operational prototype testing within the Department of Defense.
