§5209 Technology Transfer

Summary

All federal departments and agencies must carry out technology transfer work that fits their missions. They must help basic superconductivity research move toward real products by speeding up the development of manufacturing and processing for high-temperature superconductors. They must also encourage industry consortia, including small businesses and, when useful, universities and independent research groups, to lower barriers to using advanced superconductor technology. The Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, together with the Secretary of Commerce and the Secretary of Energy, must find federal policies and rules that make it harder for private companies to make long-term investments to commercialize superconductivity applications.
