§6402 Definitions

Defines key words used in the chapter. Council — the Propane Education and Research Council created under section 6403. Industry — people in the United States who produce, transport, or sell propane and who make or distribute propane equipment. Industry trade association — a propane industry group exempt under 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3) or (6). Odorized propane — propane with an added odorant. Producer — the owner of propane when it is recovered at a gas plant or refinery. Propane — a hydrocarbon mainly C3H8, including liquefied petroleum gases. Public member — a Council member who is not a producer or retail marketer and represents large users, public safety, academia, or research. Qualified industry organization — the National Propane Gas Association, the Gas Processors Association, their successor, or a group of retailers or producers that together represent at least 25 percent of U.S. propane volume. Retail marketer — someone whose main business is selling odorized propane to final consumers or to retail dispensers. Retail propane dispenser — someone who sells odorized propane to final consumers but not as their main business. Secretary — the Secretary of Energy.
