Title 15 › Chapter 2— FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION; PROMOTION OF EXPORT TRADE AND PREVENTION OF UNFAIR METHODS OF COMPETITION › Subchapter V— TEXTILE FIBER PRODUCTS IDENTIFICATION › § 70c
It is illegal to remove or damage any required stamp, tag, label, or other identification on a textile fiber product after it has been shipped but before it is sold and delivered to the final buyer. The rule applies to people who introduce, sell, advertise, offer for sale, or import these products, including products sold inside other products. If someone other than the final buyer opens a tagged package and the units inside have no tags, that person must put matching tags with the same information on each unit. Breaking this rule is treated as an unfair or deceptive business practice under the Federal Trade Commission Act.
