§717d Fixing Rates and Charges; Determination of Cost of Production or Transportation

Summary

After a hearing, the Commission must change any natural‑gas rate, charge, or rule it finds unfair, unreasonable, or discriminatory. It will decide what fair rates and rules should be and order them to be followed. The Commission cannot force a company to raise a rate that is already in its filed schedule unless the company files a new schedule, but it can order cuts when rates are unlawful or not the lowest reasonable. The Commission may also investigate how much it costs a company to produce or move natural gas when it does not have power to set the rate. It can do this on its own or if a State commission asks, as long as the investigation does not interfere with its normal work.
