Title 15 › Chapter 15D— ALASKA NATURAL GAS PIPELINE › § 720l
Congress says North American demand for natural gas will grow a lot over the next several decades. It says both the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline and Canada’s Mackenzie Delta Natural Gas project will be needed to help meet that demand, and Federal and State officials should work with Canadian officials so both projects can move forward in ways that benefit everyone. Congress notes the Mackenzie Delta project will likely be completed before the Alaska pipeline because it is smaller, needs fewer permits, and costs less. It also says gas from the 48 contiguous States and Canada won’t be enough by itself, and gas from the Alaskan North Slope will not displace or reduce the ability of Mackenzie Delta or 48‑state producers to compete.
