§720l Sense of Congress Concerning Natural Gas Demand

Summary

Congress says North American demand for natural gas will grow a lot over the next several decades. It says both the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline and Canada’s Mackenzie Delta project are needed, and U.S. federal and state officials should work with Canadian officials so both projects can move forward. Because the Mackenzie project is smaller, cheaper, and needs fewer permits, it will likely be completed before the Alaska pipeline. Gas from the Alaskan North Slope will not displace Canadian production or production from the 48 contiguous States.
