Title 15 › Chapter 111— WEATHER RESEARCH AND FORECASTING INNOVATION › Subchapter III— FEDERAL WEATHER COORDINATION › § 8546
The Director of the National Weather Service can create a yearly NOAA Weather Ready All Hazards Award Program. The awards honor people or groups who use or provide NOAA Weather Radio receivers or transmitters, or who use other early warning tools or apps, to save lives or protect property. Weather Field Offices must send annual nominee lists to the Director. Broadcast meteorologists, equipment makers, app developers, emergency managers, and public safety officials may suggest nominees to their local Weather Field Offices. Each year the Director must pick winners whose timely actions saved lives or property or supported warning efforts, and must present the awards to raise public awareness.
