§8546 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Weather Ready All Hazards Award Program

Summary

The Director of the National Weather Service can create an annual award called the NOAA Weather Ready All Hazards Award Program. The awards honor people or groups who use NOAA Weather Radio equipment or other early-warning tools and apps to save lives, protect property, or help warn the public. The program also highlights the life-saving work of the Weather Ready All Hazards effort and new warning technologies. Each year, local Weather Field Offices must send nomination lists to the Director. Broadcast meteorologists, radio makers, app developers, emergency managers, and public safety officials can suggest nominees to their local office. The Director picks the winners each year and must arrange the awards so the public learns about NOAA Weather Radio and other warning tools.
