§8702 Definitions

Defines key words used in the chapter about concrete masonry products. The list gives simple meanings for terms used later. Block machine means the equipment that uses vibration and compaction to form concrete masonry products. Board means the Concrete Masonry Products Board. Cavity means the open mold space that can form one unit with nominal plan dimensions of 8 inches by 16 inches. Concrete masonry products covers concrete masonry units plus hardscape items like concrete pavers and segmental retaining wall units made on a block machine using dry-cast concrete. Concrete masonry unit means a manmade unit at least 3 inches wide made from dry-cast concrete on a block machine, including concrete block used in masonry. Conflict of interest means a Board member or employee has a direct or indirect financial or other interest in someone who does work for or contracts with the Board. Department means the Department of Commerce. Dry-cast concrete means a mix of aggregates and cementitious materials with just enough water to hold its shape in a block machine. Education means programs that teach benefits, safety, sustainability, and new technology to boost demand and image. Machine cavities are the cavities a block machine could have. Machine cavities in operation are those that made units within the past 6 months from the eligibility date and are fully operable. Manufacturer means anyone who makes commercial concrete masonry products in the United States. Masonry unit means a noncombustible building product meant to be laid by hand or joined with mortar, grout, surface bonding, post‑tensioning, or combinations of those methods. Order means an order issued under section 8703. Person means an individual, group, partnership, corporation, association, cooperative, or other entity. Promotion means actions, including paid ads, to improve the image and sales of concrete masonry products. Research means studies on market development, promotion effectiveness, product improvement and new product development, and performance. Secretary means the Secretary of Commerce. United States means the several States and the District of Columbia.
