§8801 Definitions

Sets the official meanings of key words used in the chapter. Advisory Committee is the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee created under section 8814(a). Appropriate committees of Congress are three named committees: the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources; and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Coordination Office is the National Quantum Coordination Office created under section 8812(a). Institution of higher education is defined in section 1001(a) of title 20. Subcommittee on Quantum Information Science is the National Science and Technology Council subcommittee created under section 8813(a).

In this chapter:
(1)The term “Advisory Committee” means the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee established under section 8814(a) of this title.
(2)The term “appropriate committees of Congress” means—
(A)the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate;
(B)the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate; and
(C)the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology of the House of Representatives.
(3)The term “Coordination Office” means the National Quantum Coordination Office established under section 8812(a) of this title.
(4)The term “institution of higher education” has the meaning given the term in section 1001(a) of title 20.
(5)The term “Program” means the National Quantum Initiative Program implemented under section 8811(a) of this title.
(6)The term “quantum information science” means the use of the laws of quantum physics for the storage, transmission, manipulation, computing, or measurement of information.
(7)The term “quantum network infrastructure” means any facility, expertise, or capability that is necessary to enable the development and deployment of scalable and diverse quantum network technologies.
(8)The term “Subcommittee on Economic and Security Implications” means the Subcommittee on the Economic and Security Implications of Quantum Information Science established under section 8814a(a) of this title.
(8)The term “Subcommittee on Quantum Information Science” means the Subcommittee on Quantum Information Science of the National Science and Technology Council established under section 8813(a) of this title.
