§8851 Quantum Information Science Research Program

Summary

The Secretary of Energy must run a basic research program on quantum information science. The Secretary must set research goals, build on existing quantum work, and give more undergraduate and graduate students hands-on research and training in areas like quantum theory, quantum physics, quantum computing, math and algorithms, quantum networking and sensing, and materials science and engineering. The program must link and coordinate work across DOE centers and labs (for example, Nanoscale Science Research Centers, Energy Frontier Research Centers, Energy Innovation Hubs, the National Laboratories, the Advanced Research Projects Agency, and the National Quantum Information Science Research Centers) and must work with other federal agencies, researchers, and potential users of the research.
