Title 15 › Chapter 117— IDENTIFYING OUTPUTS OF GENERATIVE ADVERSARIAL NETWORKS › § 9202
The Director of the National Science Foundation must, after talking with other federal agencies, fund research that is judged on quality and given through competition to study how to verify and detect manipulated or synthetic digital content. That support can cover basic work on forensic and verification tools (including content made by generative adversarial networks), technical methods like watermarking, studies of how people respond to such content, research on public awareness and education, and projects done with agencies such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency under the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development Program.
