An annuity or survivor annuity tied to certain service described in parts of 5 U.S.C. 8332 can be recalculated if the person applies to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). The recalculation follows the specific rules added to that section of the law. It applies whether the person retired before, on, or after October 14, 1983. Any new payment amount starts for months beginning more than 30 days after OPM receives the application.
